Two years ago the research team from the National Museum of Archaeology, Anthropology and History of Peru (MNAAHP) initiated a new stage of studies on its Paracas collection, organized under the Recontextualization Project for the Paracas Collection. Before starting the project it was thought that all the bundles of the first category had been opened by Tello. However, on checking the archives we found that only one bundle of the first category, mummy bundle 298, did not have information related to the unwrapping.
This project plans to open mummy bundle 298 to attach a value to the recovered materials and especially rescue the dignity of the personage who was the object of the funerary rituals. This approximation is new inasmuch as until today the knowledge of Paracas culture was limited to the appreciation of its magnificent art, forgetting that this was created in honor of human beings, whom we also want to know.
This project was carried out under very different circumstances from those that existed in Tello's time. Today there are scientific research methods that will permit new contributions to the knowledge of our history. On the other hand, the fluidity of communications will allow massive spreading of this unique experience. This way we hope to contribute to the strengthening of our identity and at the same time invite the world to visit us and to learn about the achievements of our ancestors.
