Huayllaquepa de Punkurí
Authors: Victor E. Falcón Huayta, Rosa Martínez Navarro, Milano Trejo Huayta

Introduction
The huayllaquepa of Strombus galeatus from Punkurí

The signing of the agreement between the National Institute of Culture-National Museum of Archaeology, Anthropology and History of Peru and the National Advanced School of Folklore José Maria Arguedas, on August 20, 2003, provided the framework needed to initiate activities of the

scientific research and artistic experimentation project in which the 2000 pieces that make up the MNAAHP's collection of musical instruments of prehispanic origin will be recoded from the archaeological and musicological perspective.

The recording studio installed and equipped on museum property, allows audio recording to be made under the greatest security measures the case requires, since this is obviously an exceptional occasion to explore ancient Peru's world of sound from the instruments themselves.

Chalena Vásquez, Milano Trejo, Carlos Mansilla and Manuel Merino share the responsibility of leading this project, counting on the voluntary support of the musicians Dimitri Manga and Alfredo Najarro.

The publication of a major catalogue and the generation of workshops for constructing replicas and for musical creativity will be the outcome of this timeless experience.

Periodically the progress of the project will be announced through our news media.
